Gojira, motherfuckers!
In my humble opinion, Gojira is perhaps the most original, talented and brutal band out there.
The Way of All Flesh, which came out today, confirms this judgment. Songs like Oroborus and Vacuity are instant classics (I like this oxymoron: it’s cliché and absurd at the same time). Throughout the album the riffs are unmistakably Gojira but with added complexity and texture, and Mario Duplantier’s drumming is simply as powerful, heavy and yet technical as it can possibly get.
I am not yet sure about A Sight To Behold, to be quite frank; however the richness of the album makes it a certainty that I will listen to it attentively a few times before I can have a definitive opinion on any of the songs.
If you can catch up to them live, it will be worth the ticket price, whatever that price is. Here are their tour dates for North America:
